Viva Las Vegas
This weekend, I visited the City of Sin and made it back. Yes, I missed Dinah's ManWhores (aka White Party), but it was a great trip and I had a good time with good friends, lots of laughs, and some great photos. So, I'd better blog about it before I get amnesia.
I went to Las Vegas with two teammates from Sidewinders - Kim, the fabulous and fun lezzie, and Jose, the sexy Latino who wears his heart on his sleeve "like crazy." (that's his word that he trademarked.)
After my crazy night out in Thousand Palms dealing with the standoff to nowhere, I woke up early and met Kim and Jose at Kim's place in Palm Springs. Then, we hightailed it in her car through the high desert to Las Vegas. The high desert is very pretty, actually, if not for the winding turns and large likelihood for accidents.
We stayed at the Sahara casino. It is one of the oldest casinos and the fave spot of the Rat Pack. Unfortunately, that was a long time ago and even the garage has shoe prints all over the walls. Gross. But, we did get it for a good price and had a nice suite with a great view of the pool.
Then, we proceeded to enjoy Vegas by drinking a lot. We drank "smoothies" at all of these little side bars in the casinos with drinks that were 24 inches tall. We started out at the Wynn, which is pretty and extremely expensive and makes me feel like cheap trailer trash. Then, we went to T.I. formerly known as Treasure Island and the fun began.
I even gambled at the Mirage. I put in a $20 and it had a baby! Another $20! I wasn't lucky the second time I was playing the Monopoly slots, though.
Several more tubular drinks later and everything was tubular. We met up with our friends and avid softball fans Jeff and Michael. Jeff is a fellow teacher like Kim and Michael is his happy Latino boyfriend. In their vehicle, we partied on down to a club called FreeZone. It's a hole-in-the-wall gay club for the Las Vegas locals and it had grrreat music. That was until Jose went totally unconscious and we had to drag his ass back home.

The next day was 100 percent casino exploring. We started with Mandalay Bay, which is Kim's favorite and it is absolutely gorgeous, but still very expensive. I was very sad about Luxor. It has become so ghetto! They don't even have the river that takes you to your hotel room and much of the Egyptian art is gone. All it has now is Carrot Top and a topless show. EPIC FAIL. Then, we played some kiddie games in Excalibur and I rode the rollercoaster with Jose in New York, New York. In the MGM Grand, the latest addition is a lion show and I got to be close up with lion, behind a window, of course.
Then, there was dinner at Circus Circus' buffet and an acrobatic magic show in that tiny casino. And, once again, another trip to FreeZone with Jeff and Michael and it was karaoke night.
On our final day, my camera died so I don't have many pics from that. Boo. We did check out of our hotel and we saw Caesar's Palace. I am officially in love with Caesar's Palace and I would like to stay there next time. There is also another reason, which must make me the gayest man in the universe:
Yes, CHER IS PERFORMING IN CAESAR'S PALACE! We also had lunch at Spago, which is Wolfgang Puck's awesome restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious. I had a meatloaf wrapped in pancetta with a cherry mushroom sauce. Bellisimo.
So, next year, I want to stay in Caesar's Palace and see Cher's concert live. Las Vegas was fun and there were many memories and laughter and liquor involved. We all had a good time and we'll always have Paris. Je t'aime, je t'aime.
